Robert J. Everhart
Attorney at law
Who I am
I have been practicing law since 1987. My career has included drafting wills, solving problems with real estate as well as extensive work in the field of consumer and business bankruptcy. More recently, I’ve focused my practice on estate planning. From representing people in bankruptcies and real estate issues, I have seen what can go wrong. I bring this experience to work for you and accomplish your goals.
A Long-time Minnesotan
I moved to the Twin Cities when I was five years old and have lived here ever since. I take tremendous satisfaction from my involvement in my church, and with our local 4H and Habitat for Humanity organizations, among other activities. I also have a deep appreciation for the many aspects of life in our state and our region — but more than that, I have a deep connection to my neighbors and their lives.
In fact, one of the most rewarding times in my life was my involvement in Stephen Ministries, a wonderful volunteer activity I participated in through my church. I served for several years as a lay counselor to fellow members of my congregation who were going through crises of various types. The experience was deeply rewarding on many levels — and included intense training in listening that continues to serve me well in my law practice.
Personal Insights, Professional Commitment
I had a personal experience that spurred me to reorient my practice toward estate planning. In June, 2013 a colleague I had known for 20 years was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor and in January, 2014 he died. As tragic as his death was for his family, I reflected that he had taken care of things so his widow did not have to be concerned about probate or other worries. He had taken steps to protect his family. In fact, he had left a legacy of more than his love for them — he had also arranged to protect them even in the depth of their sorrow and uncertainty. He was gone, and yet he was still protecting his family.
Looking Forward
Today, I am gratified that my career and personal experiences have woven together in a way that allows me to help my clients establish their own legacies.
My legal experience, combined with my strong interpersonal and listening skills, allows me to serve as the trusted advisor my clients need to protect the people and assets that are most important in their lives.
